Not A Shot Fired in Syria: US Threat is Causing Assad’s Army to Switch Sides

The threat of a US strike on Syria is doing significant damage to the Assad regime decimated armed forces and giving advantage to the rebel forces as solider’s abandons ranks. The punishment under a dictator for insurrection against the regime is harsh, and the impact of punishment can extend from the individual to family, friends, or associates with willing blindness to neglect reporting the crime to the totalitarian regime. Murder, torture, and imprisonment of the Syrian master is not deterring the Syrian army to leave their post and flee Syria with their family and assistance from the rebels, but the threat of a US strike against Syria is a greater fear and encouragement to leave Assad to defend his own fate whether from losing the war to the rebels or US attack. Putin protects Bashar al-Assad‘s regime as Russia’s lapdog Syria screams at the US in defiance. The media is all over the place about what is happening in Syria. CBS reports of abandonment of regime forces as refugees pass the 2 million mark of people leaving Syria for Turkey and Iraq.

The flexing of US muscle with fireworks in the Syrian sky and no air strikes may damage the regime and save face for the United States. Shots across Syria’s bow may be the United States best strategic scenario. Putin would lose credibility as his lapdog collapse over show of strength without any strikes. Russia would seem like a secondary power, and Iran would consider consequences of obtaining nuclear weapons. The power struggle in Syria will be the biggest test as moderate leaders would need to rise in Syria to avoid a war now only to fight one against Syria later.

The weakened vessel of the United States is still the military powerhouse in the world. A segment of Syrians realize that the United States flexing military might will be a variable into a civil war where Russia and Iran is supporting the little land of power under the Assad regime. What will be the impact of the Assad regime collapse from the threat of US force without any strikes? The threat is causing damage without a shot fired. What will happen if we have to use force in Syria? The stakes are high for President Obama and The United States.
